Rumours on Amiga

To show that an Amiga is more than a gameboy

1. Internet

You can use an Amiga to get access to Internet. You can even do homebanking as seen on PC, so ignore the word PC (you should do this anyway) if you read an advertisement saying "do your banking at your home PC". But you have to look out for an adequate provider. Some use their own protocol for e-mail (e.g. AOL). Amiga does not understand them. So ask the provider's hotline what protocol they are using. Even if they tell you that any PC-software can be used is sufficient. An Amiga can handle the protocols POP3 and SMTP.

2. Further Development

Amiga is not dead. Amiga International inc. (Amiga inc.) keeps on developing. So in future there will also be Amiga-software, and of course new Amigas will be produced either.

3. Colors

By the way: an Amiga has more than two colors. Yes, it is true. I already met some people telling me an Amiga was a Gameboy or a calculator.

4. PC is better!!!

Why??? You can use an Amiga for the same purposes as any PC. Latterly many new hard- and software was developed that has not been there yet for Amiga. A regular Amiga 500, or even an Amiga 1000, cannot be equipped or handled like an Amiga 6000 I think. That should be obvious. You can compare that with an IBM 286 and an Intel 333 PC.

5. Amiga

The word amiga is spanish and means "female friend" or "girlfriend". That's it!!!

6. Scanner

You can even scan with your Amiga. But not all scanners are supported (due to lack of software drivers). There is fine software for scanners that are plugged to the SCSI host adaptor, thereof scanners produced by Artec, HP, Mustek, Highscreen or Epson.

7. Printers

I think it's obvious, you can use them, and nearby every printer is supported, e.g. Canon, Epson, HP etc.

8. CD-Rom & Hard Disk Drives

They are also available and should be used by everybody. Tip: you can use any drive that is suitable for PC, but you may need an IDE or SCSI controller card for your Amiga (if you do not already have one).

9. Floppy Disks

An Amiga also uses HD and DD disks as known from PC. The older Amigas do only have DD disk drives and so cannot handle HD floppies. By the way: HD has 1,76 MB, DD has 880kB. And that's more than seen on PC.
