ID3Edit is a tool to construct and edit so-called ID3 tags (v1) of MP3 files. MP3 is a high-compression audio standard that uses compared to WAV at a similar quality just ten percent of the size the WAV-file would be of. Furthermore MP3 files are able to keep an short information about title, performer, album, year, music style and a comment (each 30 chars, year 4 chars) within the last 128 bytes of the file. WinAmp for example makes use of this ID3-Tag.

A friend of mine was complaining, what a hard work it was to give more than 1000 MP3 files an ID3 tag "by hand", for a filename's structure had all the information to design the contents of all these tags.

ID3 Edit helps you here. Beside the "normal" way of editing an ID3 tag (by hand) it has a powerful engine to process MP3 files en masse. Once you specified your filenames' structure, hundreds of files get their ID3 tags. All these ID3-tags can be removed again just by clicking another button, but that is instantly still very slow (WinAmp is much faster, but you have to do it all "by hand" there...).

ID3 Edit is Freeware. Give it to your friends and relatives.
